Part of a departure terminal canopy at New Delhi’s main airport has collapsed as monsoon rains lashed the Indian capital, killing one person and injuring six others.

New Delhi's main domestic terminal is likely to remain shut for a few weeks with debris still scattered outside the airport following last week's roof collapse, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Monday.

One person died and six others were injured when part of a canopy at New Delhi airport collapsed as heavy monsoon rains lashed the Indian capital, officials said.

Permission to open the new terminal will now be granted only after a comprehensive examination of the structure is completed, which is likely to take over a month.

Delhi Airport was preparing to start operations at a new terminal by middle of July, but now permissions would be granted only after a thorough examination.
