Code discovered in Apple's backend by Nicolás Alvarez and shared with MacRumors confirms Apple's plans to release four iPhone 16 models

Leaked code suggests Apple may equip all iPhone 16 models with the same generation A18 chip, ending the trend seen in the last two iPhones.

Apple is increasing manufacturing orders for its next batch of iPhone chips, according to a report in Taiwanese outlet CTEE and translated by MacRumors. The orders, placed to partner manufacturer TSMC, reach as high as 100 million units, as much as 12% more than last year's initial orders.

Another rumor has arrived that says the iPhone 16 family will all use the same A18 chip, casting aside the last few years of processor tiers for Pro and non-Pro phones.

The code spotted by Alvarez features a number that indicates the system-on-chip powering the phone. Note that Apple identifiers in the code use a lower number than the public "name" of the chip — the A16 is listed as 15, the A17 is listed as 16 and so on.

It’s been widely rumored that all four iPhone 16 models will use the A18 chip inside, and now we have more details backing those rumors. According to code changes discovered by Nicolás Alvarez, five new iPhone models have surfaced in Apple’s backend code, with evidence each of them is powered by the A18 chip.

Apple may go back to using the same generation of A-series chips on its upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models this year, according to code discovered in Apple's backend.

This news follows the months of rumour reports suggesting that Apple could go ahead with a unified chip strategy this time.
